Electricity from Windturbines is already significantly cheaper than heating oil.

The heating sector needs to electrified with heat pumps.

Heat pumps are four times more efficient than oil burners and can be powered from already existing renewable electricity.

We need to move away from burning stuff. All stuff. (And I say that as someone who heats with wood.)

Soot from burned stuff is a major climate change driver.

We can build our houses so that they need little additional heat and we can install geothermal heat pumps where we do need heat.

This is a very promising story. And if it would be good for the US North East, it should be good for all of Canada.

But one problem with pellets is the smoke. I don’t know how much smoke comes from switch grass. But it seems that each time we discover new biomass things to burn, we find we can only use them in rural areas because of the smoke.

Regular wood pellets already are cheaper than oil. About a $1,000 per winter gets you 4 tons of pellets to run your stove 24/7 for 5 months….
