I am very confused about the title of the article, for someone that wrote articles for Scientific American I can't see how the title could pass pier review. Radium salts is not a new issue, various grass roots groups have been trying to get this message out for years.

EWG has been fighting this for years, here is one article : http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CEcQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fftp.sourcewatch.org%2Findex.php%3Ftitle%3DNew_York_and_fracking&ei=-_7RUOHVH-uM0QGmoYCYCg&usg=AFQjCNFtRj1e5hwxg7wdznx4_Kfk0RJA-Q&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.dmQ

The Elmira Chemung county dump takes the drill cuttings and the lechate from the dump goes to the Chemung Waste Water Treatment plant, neither scan for radium/radioactivity.

The fact that this is presented as a "New concern" is a big lie in my opinion, maybe the title shoule be "grass roots outrage grows to such a level that the issue can no longer be ignored" ..... there, yes, that is much better.

I would appreciate if the author contacted me on this, my middle inital is T and I am easy to find.
The impact from radium in the environment is decades away, this is a nightmare.
