From time to time, you hear about what specific cities are doing to battle climate change. Well, Minneapolis is no exception in the effort to stop global warming, and the Midwestern US city has done some cool things, including promote bike-sharing, and being a leader in clean-technology.

In a video recently put out by progressive state-based policy center Minnesota 2020, we get a glimpse of Minneapolis’ approach to addressing climate change via the Minneapolis Climate Action Plan.

Brendon Slotterback, Minneapolis sustainability program co-ordinator said the city’s action plan is a response to goals of local city council on this pressing issue. He said the Climate Action Plan aims to cut local greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025, while 15% by 2015.

Here’s the video:

Worth highlighting, Slotterback notes that the city plans to take a three-point plan of attack in addressing carbon emissions, tackling the following areas:

  • Buildings and Energy
  • Transportation
  • Recycling

Chip in a few dollars a month to help support independent cleantech coverage that helps to accelerate the cleantech revolution!

Slotterback sums everything up nicely regarding the need for a concrete plan here:

“We need to turn the corner on greenhouse gas emission in the next 5-10 years or face serious consequences in the future.”

While other cities have been getting more attention, Minneapolis is like a little gem that no one talks about enough. Congrats to the city for the neat stuff it has already accomplished and its intentions to do more.
