Reasonable points, but best to not go overboard on the mercury in environment issue. CFLs are recycled and the mercury recovered.

That said, I expect CFLs will not be around 10 years from now. When the price of LEDs comes down some more and we have access to higher lumen units CFLs will likely fade away.

Bottom line is – right now you can replace all the bulbs in your house with cheap CFLs and save a ton of money. As long as you aren’t a lamp thrower or have out of control kids/pets the mercury should be a non-issue.

As LEDs come down in price and increase output then start switching over. But install no more incandescents.

CFLs use far more energy in production and use than LED and the mercury concern is about cumulative aggregation of the element in the environment. LEDs last longer too.

You have more mercury in your mouth than in all the cfl’s stocked in your local Walmart. Weird thing is, people never panic about that. It is only the fake concern for the mercury in cfl’s.

Is this a CFL, LED, …. ? they look like CFL’s Do they contain mercury ? Without more details its kind of hard to get excited considering the many eco friendly options out there.
