The Chevy Volt may have a big brother soon (I know, big brothers should come first, but things are different in the auto world). Here’s more on the details from Gas2:

Volt-Like Cadillac ELR To Hit Dealerships In 2013 (via Gas 2.0)

One common knock against the Chevy Volt is its high price, coming in at a whopping $40,000 (give or take) before tax credits. If only GM had launched the Volt as a Cadillac, people might complain less. Well GM is doing just that, and the Volt-like Cadillac ELR is set to hit dealerships starting in…

Honestly….35 miles per charge….for $40K? Ok, so, (very) optimistically, a Caddy with a 50-60 mile range for $60K?
Folks, let me tell you what’s really going on here….
GM makes about $2000 on a Cruze…..it’s a $20k +/- car…. but on a $40k car, they make at least TWICE as much……this little folly has then cost the taxpayers about $5k in rebate money, and created somewhat near the same pollution from generating the power to charge the cars as the gas would….because today’s engines are VERY clean….15 or more years ago, no…but this is now.
AND, I haven’t even included the cost of the onboard generator, or the approx $3 to $5 per overnight charge for the battery.
As I said earlier, this is nothing but a folly….instead of his new suit of clothes, the Emperor now has a new car.
With your $15k premium cost for the diference between the 2 cars, AFTER the rebate…..thats 333 tanks of gas @ $45 per tanks…..that’s
6.5 years or so of fuel…..and, as we now know…..unless we paid cash, we have screwed ourselves further, by paying interest on the increased price…..you would have paid no interest on your ongoing fuel expenses.

      How cute.

You base your argument on comparing a compact economy car with a luxury car and try to spin that into logic. You sure your name isn’t Rumpelstiltskin?

Chevy Cruze gets good mileage. 42 MPG. Burning $4/gallon gas that’s $0.095/mile.

EVs use about 0.3kWh/mile. At $0.12/kWh the Cad can drive for $0.036/mile in electric mode.

Now don’t worry yourself too much about purchase prices. They will come down. You just keep on paying those big monthly gas bills and keeping the money flowing to countries that hate us.

Actually I can’t think of any countries that hate the US. Some get a little peeved at times, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a country where the majority of people respond positively to the question, “Do you hate the United States?” Perhaps you are thinking of certain specific sub and trans-national groups?

When’s the last time the government of Iran sent us flowers?

If you look inside some of the Middle East oil-producing companies you’ll find significant numbers of people who hate the US. They hate our military presence in their countries, which is understandable. They hate that we support/prop up national governments that they hate.

Our oil need has caused us to get involved in Middle Eastern politics at an inappropriate level. We fought two oil wars there and still have troops stationed there. Plop a Russian (as an example) army down in the middle of the US or Australia and see how popular that would be with the locals.

Go talk to some actual Iranians. Do not be misled by lies. Do not spread lies.

          • Bob_Wallace

            ” government of Iran ”

” significant numbers of people ” =/= majority

          • Ronald Brak

So you are saying that the country of Iran doesn not hate the US?

          • Bob_Wallace

What the crap do you mean by “Do not spread lies.”?

Are you saying that the US is universally loved in the Middle East?

Or are you saying that Australians would love to have a Russian invasion?

          • Ronald Brak

What do I mean by do not spread lies? I mean, do not suggest that Iran is a country that hates the US when the vast majority of people there do not. Now perhaps that’s not what you are suggesting, but it appears that way to me.

          • Bob_Wallace

            ” government of Iran ”

What do you mean by “country of Iran”?
The government? All the citizens of Iran? A majority of the citizens of Iran? Some of the citizens of Iran?

          • Ronald Brak

If you look to my first post in this thread, you’ll see I wrote, “Actually I can’t think of any countries that hate the US. Wow, a great car from a company Obama saved, powered by the renewable energy that Obama delivered.

Think Ann will buy a few for their houses?

      • Captivation

Depends on the trunk space. Those temple garments are even bulkier than they look.
