We're all holding our collective breath while waiting for the great promise of LENR to ride to our rescue.

After seeing all the demonstrations of working LENR plants cranking out totally green $0.01/kWh electricity, well, quivers are running up and down our legs.

I fully believe that renewables will be made obsolete by Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) devices. Look for these to start showing up in 2013. Fossil fuel plants will convert to LENR. LENR will drive power plant turbines. LENR is low cost .01/KWH) and totally "green" as it produces no radiation or waste. No electrical storage will be required as these devices can be turned on or off at will. LENR is being planned for home use as well.

I am fully for renewables as transition devices but if you need 10 or more years for payback, they will not be cost effective once LENR starts rolling out.

In any case, over time fossil fuels will cease to be burned.

so, they are building more fossil fuel plants. they are just spewing propaganda based on announcement dates to try to fool everyone about the reason. Riiiiiight. we can't see through that. sure do hope those wind and solar plants hold up to the hurricanes and tornados coming. :)

Excellent article describing an alternative way forward for a nation's power generation. A somewhat similar trend, albeit at a far slower pace, is being taken in the US. According to the EIA, only one new coal plant came online in the 1H 2012 and no construction starts for other new coal plants were reported. Now if we can maintain momentum with renewables deployment (reauthorizing the PTC would help a lot) and pass the STORAGE Act one of these years, we might achieve energy independence CLEANLY.

EIA report is here: http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=7610
