Ted Turner (or Turner Renewable Energy) and Southern Company have teamed up to acquire and put on line a 20-MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Nevada, the Apex Solar Project.

The project was built by SunEdison. “Construction of the solar array began in October 2011 and commercial operation is expected during the third quarter of 2012. The project will consist of approximately 88,000 poly-crystalline solar modules provided by Trina Solar.”

Ted Turner is very very noble for trying hard to push Southern Company into Solar. But Southern Company’s aggregate 50 MW commitment to solar in 2012 is not ever 2 tenths of 1 percent of their portfolio.  They are not trying.  They’re like U.S. senators filibustering, “La la la la I can’t hear you no-the planet-is-not-getting-warmer la la la la I-am-not-going-to-listen-to-you…”  Southern Company thinks climate change is a joke: http://heliocurrent.com/just-another-682-million-federal-subsidy-for-southern-company-mississippi/   Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi should EACH be talking about their first Gigawatt of solar in the next 2 years and Southern Company can’t even get to 100 megawatts.  Just ridiculous.  They will never get CO2 to manageable levels crawling like this.
