Mexico Planning to Double Its Solar Power in 2012

Mexico has some of the best solar power potential in the whole world, and it’s looking to start tapping that a bit more. Here’s a quick look at some of its big new solar power plans, via sister site Ecopreneurist:

Mexico’s Solar Energy Investment and Capacity Doubles (via Ecopreneurist)

According to solar and wind systems producer, Conermex, Mexico will reach a total of 12 MW of electricity generated by solar energy by the end of 2012, doubling its current potential. Mexico currently has 6 MW of solar energy capacity installed, but with a growth spurt in investments and new projects…

Hi Zach, i think the data is only for Utility Solar Projects,as Mexico reached cumulative Solar Installation of about 28.62 MW in 2010 itself.

Also there are four Major Major projects coming up there with a total capacity of 370 MW!

thanks. that’s what i get for reposting a piece quickly. :D

i was surprised when i came back and saw the small amt mentioned in the article. my bet is that it won’t be long before Mexico steps on the solar energy pedal.

Yeah, not sure what i was smoking when i wrote that headline. Actually, i don’t smoke, so not sure what was going on. It was probably a tad late in the evening :D  I just updated the title and post a bit.

Hopefully once it gets rolling a bit it will be growing solar exponentially.

    Is this a joke?

    12 MWp, Mexico!

    It is a lot disappointing

12 MW is a bit disappointing for a country like Mexico – the solar insolation there is unrivaled anywhere else in North America except maybe for select parts of the US.

    Try 120 MW!

In the old days, people would attempt bold action against the headwinds of extreme technical obstacles.  In our times, people attempt more modest actions without significant technical obstacles.  But the headwinds are still blowing as hard as ever.  Its just that now they have morphed into extreme political resistance toward anything that resembles progress.
