Conservative government has taken over. At least, though, try to speak green, but not doing green in the background. (Think Chris Christie in NJ talking about how much his green program will do to help the environment when it's actually a program he inherited and then watered down.)

What's going on in the UK? Have pro-nuclear interests taken over the government?

Between wind, solar, tidal and the ability to share power with Iceland and Europe there's no need for wasting money on glow in the dark generation. No need to put people at risk and leave nasty problems for those who follow.

I think I may start writing some letters. Because this has kind of pissed me off.

Small upside is local government (councils) started installing PV on the roofs of social housing,wo hopefully council initiatives will bypass coalition attempts to piss off every demographic in the UK.

This, on top of the recent nuclear announcement, looks gloomy indeed, but the the UK does gloom well these days, probably to prevent the pound rising too high against other currencies and reducing its export competitiveness.
Never mind the rock-bottom morale of the public.
Plenty of time to boost renewables, but not to abandon radioactive commitments.

I was about to write that Adam Smith must be rolling over in his grave. But then I remembered that the father of economics was actually Scottish and Scotland has been quite aggressive in its pursuit of Clean Energy.
Why Britain would choose to forgo the advantages of Clean Energy is one of those mysteries that will puzzle us in the future. Its sort of like the question of why conservatives hate to conserve anything. We can ask again and again but the only reply is silence.
