Agree with RobS and Bob_Wallace. The primary issue with the military is security. Cost is and should always be secondary. Horses are likely cheaper than tanks, biplanes cheaper than jets, sticking our heads in the sand cheaper than satellites but security dictates that there be military research and spending. We can limit but not eliminate alternative fuel spending. See cleantechnica.com/2012/03/19/us-military-and-a-critical-energy-alternative/

The military has made it clear that they see climate change as a security issue for the US.

Biofuels are a defensive move.

The issue and cost with military energy is transport and security. Over 3000 US military lives have been lost in fuel convoy attacks, the cost of running and securing fuel convoys has come to about $300 per gallon of fuel delivered in Iraq and Afghanistan. I also struggle to see the benefit of biofuels because they still need to be delivered, using solar however to cut down on generator us and using hybrid vehicles or even EVs to minimise diesel use has enormous life and money saving potential. $300 per gallon fuel means generator produced power costs about $30 per kwh, considering solar now produces at about $0.20 per kwh and only requires one delivery convoy it's pretty easy to argue distributed generation isnfa cheaper and safer.
