Dump The Pump

For the seventh straight year, Americans will celebrate Dump The Pump Day. This year, the “holiday” falls on June 21, 2012.

Started by the American Public Transportation Association as a way to get more people to ride public transit, the movement urges everyone to avoid buying gasoline for one day to raise awareness of alternative forms of transportation – particularly public transit.

APTA says that not only does riding public transportation reduce your individual carbon footprint, but it also can save you money. In fact, their figures indicate that a household that uses public transportation as a means of downsizing to just one vehicle can save more than $10,000.00 per year!

We have an even better suggestion – make every day Dump The Pump Day – and buy a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) or low speed electric vehicle (LSV)! These vehicles are fully electric and if you drive one, you’ll never have to pull up to a gas pump again! And since electricity is far less expensive than gasoline, not only will you save money, you’ll also help to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and eliminate pollutants that go into our air and water.
Sounds like a win-win-win situation, doesn’t it?

So, consider joining the Dump The Pump movement on June 21st – and Happy Dump The Pump Day to all!
