I sort of agree with you. But at the same time we need to rebuild our manufacturing base if we want lasting economic recovery. We can’t only buy with nothing to sell.

Solar panels have a low labor input and shipping costs money. If China were to sell at a non-dumping price then US manufacturers could probably compete.

I suspect that we’re short years from massive solar installation and during that many year period there’s going to be plenty business for all. If we can keep American companies alive in the short run it’s likely to be good for us in the long run.

solar energy can only become cheaper if you import from low-cost manufacturers. if we allowed 95% of our products to come from China to our local Wal-mart I don’t see the big deal about importing solar panels, esp since there are numerous high quality manufacturers there nowadays. Americans can make money from sales, installations, servicing, and maintenance.
