Well, Ed, I've got plenty to conserve but I wouldn't call myself a conservative.

I do agree with most of your stated stances. I don't like paying taxes, but I pay my share. I definitely agree that we need to preserve, and restore, our environment.

If conservatives believed in equal rights for all, for no special treatment for the very rich, for return of political power to real people rather than "corporate people", for working together to make the world a better place - a few things like that then I could consider becoming a conservative.

But as long as conservatives preach hate, intolerance, greed, hostility to other countries, destruction of the planet, etc. I just can't go there.

Perhaps you might not be the conservative you think you are. It might be time for a new term for people who support fiscal conservation, environmental conservation, and doing the Jesus thing - treating others as you would like be treated.

I bet when you end having something to conserve some day in the future, you will become a conservative. I am a far right wing conservative who also believes we must do all that we can do to preserve the enviroment for my grandchildren ( 6 Young ladies) I work hard for my money and I believe in paying my fare share of taxes. Jesus said pay unto ceasar what is due to ceasar. But not a penny more. I believe that after you work real hard for what you have, you will insist that other than the sick and infirm, you will insist that others do the same. That is what a real conservative is about.
