Yet again, I thought this surprising car story was an April Fools’ Day joke and it turned out it wasn’t. Former, former president George Bush (George H.W. Bush) has apparently ordered a Chevy Volt for his son Neil Bush’s birthday. (Sorry, but who even knew there was a Neil Bush?) He ordered the car from a Chevy dealer in Houston. Here’s more on the Bush Volt sale from Gas2 (and yes, I completely agree with the comment at the end):

The Republican Party and President Obama have made the Chevy Volt into something of a political football. Lost in the rhetoric is the fact that the Republicans themselves helped promote the Volt before Obama ever even sat down in the Oval Office. Former President George W. Bush George H.W. Bush, …

Neil was one of the directors of Silverado Savings and Loan which cost US taxpayers $1.3 billion when they crashed the company.

The US Office of Thrift Supervision investigated Silverado’s failure and determined that Bush had engaged in numerous “breaches of his fiduciary duties involving multiple conflicts of interest.” (Wiki)

Almost certainly Neil avoided criminal prosecution because of his father.

Unless George the Lesser has moved in the last few days he lives in a gated community in Houston. He quickly sold the pig farm as soon as he no longer needed it for a photo-op backdrop. That entire “Bush ranch” was as phony as compassionate conservationism. Nothing but a stage prop.

It’s interesting that Fox News has seemingly had a come-to-Jeezus moment about EVs. Since the Media Matters compilation of Neil Cavuto’s EV hate spewing comments appeared a month ago, Fow deigned to interview a certain conservative Dallas businessman by the name of Lee Spiekerman who took Fox to task on their hatred of EVs, and the Volt in particular. He made a very strong case for the country’s need for this technology without once mentioning the environmental benefits. His case rested entirely on the economic and national security benefits of EVs.
