Imagine a hybrid battery/methanol vehicle. At time of purchase it only comes with a 5 kilowatt hour battery. But over time you constantly add more and more battery capacity. And the methanol is always a backup plan in case you run out.

This would truly be the ultimate hybrid and since both fuel sources create electricity, there is no need for the redundancy of two engine types.
