Update: the Stabenow amendment has failed. The vote was 49-49. No surprises in my state of FL — Nelson (D) voted for it and Rubio (R) voted against it. Any surprises in yours?

Here’s a quick update (with a call for action today) on the important wind and solar energy amendment being voted on in the Senate today (more background info is available in my piece from Friday):

Support Sen. Debbie Stabenow's clean energy amendment today.

The U.S. Senate today will make another attempt to address critical expiring clean energy programs, including the 1603 Treasury Program. An amendment offered by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) would extend these programs.  However, another amendment offered by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) would sunset most renewable energy incentives, including the solar investment tax credit (ITC).

Don’t take anything for granted. Elected officials are hearing loud and clear from the other side on this issue. As we speak, Capitol Hill is being flooded with calls and emails urging Senators to oppose the Stabenow amendment and vote in favor of the DeMint amendment.

If these efforts prevail, it could have a devastating impact on America’s solar industry and undo the hard work and effort of individuals like you who have made solar a success story.

We need you to call your Senator’s office today to make sure your voice is heard!

The message is simple. On S. 1813:

•    Vote “YES” on the Stabenow amendment and
•    Vote “NO” on the DeMint amendment

Let them know that you are a constituent and that supporting clean energy is important to you. If you work in solar, let them know that as well.

Thanks again for all your efforts, and I hope I can count on your help.

Sincerely,

Manning Feraci
Vice President, Legislative Affairs
Solar Energy Industries Association
