In 1980, after a great start in reaction to the energy crisis of the 1970s, the U.S. all but turned its back on the solar industry. An industry that we created, then abandoned. Ronald Reagan, the worshiped hero of conservative Republicans, took the solar panels off the white house and slashed funding of research into solar energy.

As Denis Hayes, former head of the Solar Energy Research Center (now known as NREL) puts it, "The tragedy is that the U.S. dropped the torch. The flame was kept alive by Japan and then Germany with their feed-in-tariffs. A dozen other countries now have worked to achieve the volume we needed to drive us down the cost curves. The basic technology of what we do now was all within our grasp in the Carter years."

And so now, with the anniversary of the Telstar, we cry that we want it all back? Just think of where we'd be today if we had LED the industry for the past 40 years. Good ole' American innovation could have not only dominated solar, but led to drastic cost reductions paving the way to NATIONAL SECURITY and energy independence.

Instead, the fossil fuel domination has led to brownfields, global oppression and environmental terrorism from Ecuador to Nigeria to New Orleans... And now Pennsylvania, Texas, and New York with documented health and water catastrophes thanks to fracking. Don't forget three costly and tragic wars (don't forget, the first thing Karzai did when put in as the puppet leader of Afghanistan was to sign off on the oil pipeline from Kazakhstan to the Persian Gulf, and its almost finished! Then we'll come home...).

I am all for American Jobs, don't get me wrong. I am just shocked and disgusted that we are now crying "Foul!" against the Chinese as though there is really anything that is truly "made in America" anymore. We ceded the manufacturing mantle decades ago.

to my solar comrades, this ruling has the "Abundant" natural gas guys laughing all the way to the bank!

Big opportunity to do something about that at hand.

It's the election season. Get busy and help elect Congress Members who put America first. Help get rid of those who work for the fossil fuel industry.

And help return President Obama to office so that new US energy job legislation gets signed.

We need a comprehensive energy policy that includes protection for USA jobs. The political drumbeat of 2012 is jobs, jobs, jobs. Well that sucking sound you hear is US energy jobs being vacuumed up by the Chinese government subsidized energy sector. Time to take a stand for the USA
