There are so many benefits from energy efficiency; not just in terms of the environment but also in terms of finances and jobs. It looks as if energy efficiency will be a hot topic that we’ll here about a lot more in the future.

Not only is it cold in Alaska, it’s also getting hotter in Alaska in the summer. Weatherization works for both hot and cold weather.

Right now, with so many skilled construction people out of work, would be a great time to improve the efficiency of existing buildings.

Efficiency is always the first step in meeting renewable energy goals. Lets say you target 25% renewable energy by 2025 and you’re currently consuming 1000 MwH/year. You have identified 5 efficiency projects with a payback of 5 years or less that can save you 25%. You pursue those projects, because they make good financial sense, leaving you with a 750 Mwh/year load. To meet your goal by 2025 you now need only 185.5 MwH of renewables, not 250, and you’re better off financially to boot.
