it will only stop when the bankruptcies begin. chesapeake is lining up to be the first. the courts will be clogged with suits for fraud and stockholders will sue directors. another mess like sub-prime. only a class action against pfiser for the lying about lipitor remains to finish off the reagun– bush crimes

yeah, i’m thinking it’s more than JUST a ponzi scheme. this is a good idea. also, i think they must be trying to position themselves for some good gov’t support that might help to save their butts. However, not having more than a hunch on that, I figured I’d leave it out of the post.

But, really, I don’t see these prices staying as low as they are now for long. Nearly everyone projects they’ll increase, but i think (and hope) they’ll hit their real level sooner than later.

This is hilarious. Couple these ponzi schemes with the news this week that shale gas reserves were over-estimated by 300 percent, and we gonna have a hoot-nanny down on Walled Street, boys! Ha!

Surely the situation with pv panels is a big part of this issue. Gas prices have to remain low – to prevent pv from going below grid parity, and then all bets are off in terms of the explosion of the production of pv. Gas companies surely know they are on borrowed time – and are desperately trying to milk this cow before it finally dies.

… OR, perhaps at least some of these companies know what they’re doing, and are engaging in a big “land grab” to get wells started before the government starts cracking down. In other words, they’re all trying to get as much supply locked in before the growth in # of wells comes to a screeching halt, at which point NG prices will rise, and they will finally be profitable.

Either way, NG is not going to be so ridiculously cheap for all that much longer. I hope utilities keep this in mind when deciding on whether to build a new solar, wind, or NG plant…

Wow. Ever since seeing “gasland”, I’ve been thinking the low prices for NG can’t last more than a decade or so, as people wake up to the pollution problems. But now, to find that this level of financial trickery is going on, I have to think that a sudden huge jump is inevitable on an even shorter time frame, as these companies start going bankrupt and shutting down their wells…

Sometime I just have to sit back and think about what is going on just below the surface of these multi million dollar investmemts into finite sources of energy which are not profitable in any way. It just does not seem make any sense. It made me cringe when Obama said that he will look at all options for energy in the future and acheive more energy independence, including ‘clean coal’ and shale and tar sands. ‘We can get a 100 years out of natural gas’ he says, but what happens after that. AS long as money is the main concern with energy, it seems to be a losing battle to me.
