Canada has more than sufficient geothermal energy alone to power the electrical grid of the country (S.Gasby, Geophysical Survey of Canada, 2011). It can be accessed using fossil fuel drilling technology which creates jobs. We do not need expansion of fossil fuel industries. It is the industries which uses tobacco style advertizing, misinformation and government lobby tactics to ensure maximum profit for themselves. They are not interested in the welfare of citizens, ecosystems, the planet, or even their own children. (These top 1% likely believe they can always buy clean air, clean water, green spaces, unlimited food or anything else they want whenever they want into the future. They seem not to need the environment (which, ultimately provides everything they have).

nearly every climate scientist on the plant has emphasized that humans are causing considerable and concerning global warming. there are only a few that don’t, and they’re work is clearly flawed. i’ve looked into it enough to see that.

there is money involved in this, and it is why politicians are allowed to claim the sorts of things you say even though the scientists know it’s insane. the money is coming from an extremely rich fossil fuel industry making record profits. wake up.

When a scientists has been studying a matter for decades, is considered a leader in the field, is the director of one of the most notable climate agencies in the world, and is fed up with political abuse of the science, he’s no longer a scientist.

Climate Scientist? Geopolitical PR psycho-babble-ist. “wake up’s comment” Really? You’ve been out of America? It’s not flat out there, eh – other countries too. I’m from NZ. Man-made climate change as a major concern globally is garbage. People should be ashamed at how they just allow themselves to get so gullible by the media. I’d say well over 50% of well educated, critical thinking individuals around the globe would agree that it’s about as fraudulent as Swine Flue was. They just managed to work it deep into the environmental education programme, so now we have a massive collectivist group of preachers out there. There’s a lot of damage being caused by man, sure. It’s being caused by profit acting alone, without a conscience (that matters anyway). We’ve allowed that driving profit to become so deluded that it thinks it can keep acting without one.

I have been saying for a few years now that scientists need to stand up and be counted. Kudos to James Hansen. In Canada, we face not only well funded fossil fuel companies, but a Federal and provincial governments who appear to have swallowed the fossil fuel mantra if not their money. The federal government is now trying to find ways to stop legitimate public input into hearings (think Enbridge/Gateway pipeline sending 500 mill bbl oil to 220 supertankers on the west coast, bound for China. It will be a real challenge to stop it.

Also consider what we know about additional climate evidence as contained in ice core samples and the fossil record including event such as the Paleocene – Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) 58-56 million years ago and you realise your anti-AGW argument is mere fluff. Yes the climate changes and we can also view the how previous releases of huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, as we are currently doing, affect the earth’s climate and species survival.

James Hansen is clearly no longer a scientist. He has so much invested in man made global warming that he has completely lost his objectivity. Once a scientist has crossed the line into activism he loses the right to use that title.

Rather than focus on our potential impact on global climate and whether or not this impact is either significant or harmful, I think the larger debate should center on the overall impact of humankind on the planet’s ecology.

The tangible impact our sheer numbers are having on other life on the planet is quite clear and well documented. The variety and viability of wildlife on every continent has been reduced severely by human degradation and destruction of ecosystems.

It is human population control that is the real problem, and we must overcome our political and cultural biases to objectively deal with it before we reach the point of no return for many endangered species.

I’ve been part of the gathering climate data during the 1990s and know how the data is manipulated and/or ignored. I have researched thousands of pages of studies and have found countless flaws . While climate change is always occurring, to say man has any significant impact is irresponsible. In order to make it easy for everyone to understand, consider this: We have only been collecting temperature data for around 150 years and use historical references from just a few hundred years ago. While geological studies can give some information, it cannot give temperatures (only theoretical ranges) from earlier times. Consider the short time of data collection (150 years) to the age of the earth (approximately 4.5 billion years). Even considering back to the earliest history of society (10,000 years),to think we know anything about climate norms and human impact moves one from ignorant to stupid.

My entire family all lives on Gulf Coast. all oil is still there. all industry outside drilling is still devastated. it is a ‘conservative’ area not ‘liberal’ just like midwest affected by tar sands boondoggle and most areas ruined by fracking as well as mountaintops getting blown off for tiny bit of coal are not ‘liberal’…..

it is Big Oil/Coal/Gas, i.e. ‘fossil fuel’ industry and its’ paid off Congressmen/women vs. the rest of us.

my area is not ‘liberal’. it hasnt stopped two 100 yr record floods in five yrs., last Oct. getting hit with trop storm AND hurricane AND a blizzard. it didn’t stop two major cos. from having to get bailed out to tune of 100 million to stop them from leaving due to flooding devastation….

it is reality. turn off boob tube. turn off rush and faux news.

we need to DEAL WITH IT!!! now not later..costs are not magically disappearing..they will keep multiplying. if it is ‘inconvenient’ now it is going to be really ugly later.

it is alarming when you go overseas and everybody is aware of manmade climate change. come back to US and everything from gravity to color of grass is debatable due to fossil fuel interests. I just hope all effects are localized and countries who dont pollute dont get worst effects and that all effects are thus localized, like in TX which can entirely turn to desert for all I care. I am done giving a sh*9….college students overseas are 100% behind all efforts to get off fossil fuels. come back to US and students dont know what countries border the US and yet one party says our tiny abysmal portion of budget going to education is too much, over half going to defense is not enough and 1% going to r and d is ‘socialist’.
