Humanist: your comment restates the myths this report knocks down for the umpteenth time -- most notably, that nuclear power is cheaper than renewables. also, the myth that baseload power is needed in this day and age is a good one i hear parroted all the time. it's just not the case any more :D

The world’s electricity consumption is growing not shrinking.

Because more and more developing nations with massive populations are seeking a lifestyle that you and I take for granted, reliable base load electricity will form the foundation for that aspiration.

Inefficient and costly renewable sources cannot provide large-scale electricity supply required to support the massive populations and the industries that support them in those developing nations.

Countries like Russia, China, India, South Korea are all forging ahead with their significant nuclear power programs dwarfing the nuclear power capacity of Germany, Italy and other EU countries who have cut back their nuclear power generation, instead increasing their use of dirty fossil fuel electricity and causing significant cost increases in electricity for their peoples just to get a few votes!
