If we use renewable energy to make hydrogen from water then we waste electricity. We get more miles by using the electricity directly.

Hydrogen is an inefficient way to store power. It is not a power source.

Even if all of the electricity was sourced from coal an EV would still be more efficient then a gas engine. Not to mention all of the other advantages of EVs.
Most EVs charge during the night when power utilization is at its lowest.
It takes much longer to green our entire auto fleet then to green the power industry
