100% of Denmark's electricity will not be generated in Denmark.

Denmark is on route to generate an amount of renewable electricity equal to 100% of their usage. At times they will be generating more, at other times less. They will do as they now do, sell the surplus across their boarder and buy back when their systems are running short.

Right now they trade a lot of power with their neighbors who have lots of hydro power. When Denmark's wind is up other countries can use that electricity and save their water for less windy times.

This is a beginning part of the Great European/North African Clean Grid. Sometimes referred to as Desertec. Europe is being linked from Greenland to Northern Africa with high voltage, often HVDC, transmission lines in order to move clean energy from one place to another.

Greenland will supply geothermal and hydro. The UK wind and tidal. Southern Europe and North Africa solar. Each country will contribute what it has and by linking a vast geographic area supply will be evened out.

We, in the US, could learn a lot from Europe if we could get past the fallacy that we are number one in all things....
