Thank you, jburt, you are correct, I am wrong: will fix. I had assumed since the Bloomberg story is quoted in US dollars and tons it was a US measurement:

“the top five makers and together had capacity to make 131,000 tons of polysilicon last year, up from 50,000 tons in 2008″.
“…was selling for $178 on the spot market. Wacker, the No. 2 producer, will double its capacity to about 60,000 tons by 2013″

That’s $25 / kg, not per ton. Polysilicon production can be used as a form of energy storage.
