Some attorneys are brilliant and well-informed outside the area of law.

Just because some people elect some attorneys who are stupid and ideologically-blinded does not mean that all are. Our problems lie more with voters than with elected officials. We need to step up our educational efforts.

Well, he is completely right.

However, this problem plagues not only the US but the whole Western block, including the EU and other democracies.

It is extremely hard to make progress on the RIGHT THINGS when decision makers are completely incapable of understanding it.

I am not sure if democracy in its western form is beyond repair but it is pretty clear that it is not capable of handling large, not-so-visible-from-the-start problems.

The US political elite will start working on solutions of Global Warming when it will be WAY too late, when people and the economy start dying at such rates that it becomes politically uncomfortable.
