I read your story and feel for your cause, however; coporate greed, the lust for profits and government support does not! And will not.
The glowing "buzz words" relative to the goodness of nuclear power elect generation, the enviromental -cleaniness of the nuc and the contribution to the public good will always prevail.Whenever there is dessent the horrors of coal and the emense numbers of body bages is called up from the depth to remind all of us as to how wonderful the nuc is. We all should be extreemyl grateful.
Considering the average life span of humans is about 90 years and that period is all there is to accumulate and enjoy wealth- who has time in the corporate and political world to care about the future? Certinaly no one can believe that coporations do. Their bottom line and only objective is profit. nothing else.
Anything spanning thousands of years is well beyond their attention span, after all the severe consequences of what they created and imposed on generations will most likely never be their problem to resolve- so why worry? be happy!

> We believe that the most dangerous and long-lived elements in the waste will be safe after 100,000 years or so.

It's actually much longer than that:

* "Of particular concern in nuclear waste management are two long-lived fission products, Tc-99 (half-life 220,000 years) and I-129 (half-life 17 million years)..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactive_waste#Management_of_waste

If our distant descendants find this stuff and they don't understand what it is, they will be poisoned by it.

Nuclear waste: the gift that never stops giving.

I can't recommend this documentary highly enough. It's a must watch if you want to understand the implications of storing radioactive for thousands of generations.

Anyone who is still pro-nuke after watching it should probably not be allowed to play with scissors and sharp knives.
