Electric Irish Water Taxi is the Future of Venice
July 7th, 2011 by Jo Borrás

That futuristic little space pod up there is called the CAT (for City Aquatic Transport), and is the product of Irish industrial designers from the Curve Creative studio aimed at providing an alternative to automotive traffic on congested urban roads.
If the CAT ever leaves the drawing board, its designers hope it will be a part of a fully-realized city plan that integrates a user-friendly pre-booking system, in concert with more impulsive “jumping on” at docks around the imagined city’s seaports. Each CAT craft will be powered by silent electric motors, and designed to transport four passengers in 360-degree rotating captains chairs surrounding a central table, while a glass roof will allow for all-weather use without obstructing the view.
The idea itself is, admittedly, poorly conceived (that glass canopy effectively makes the CAT a floating hothouse – and it would probably only work in places Venice, Ft. Lauderdale, or San Antonio) but there’s no denying the thing has style!
