I’ve been wanting to cover this company’s products for months now, but I always get caught up with breaking cleantech news and decide that I can push the story off a little longer. Well, today, I decided to forget the news for a short time and cover some of this company’s cool products….

The company is Strategic Services International and it has created cleantech solutions of various types and for various purposes — I’m just going to focus on a bit of what it offers, so check out its site (linked above) if you’re interested in learning about more.

SSI creates mobile renewable energy systems, some of which also integrate water purification and communications units. Clearly, such systems could help people in a variety of situations. As SSI claims, these multi-functional units are perfect for: “Military – Forward Operating Bases (FOB), Homeland Security and Border Protection, Disaster Relief & Emergency Response Agencies, Mobile Hospitals, Humanitarian Aid for Developing Nations, Telecom Cellular Network (Cell On Wheels), and remote power generation.”

SSI also builds electric vehicle charging stations that are 100% solar powered.

The company’s products are manufactured in the US (Maryland), creating new US jobs in the clean energy sector.

Yellow Stone National Park Gets a Clean Energy Boost from SSI

SSI has been awarded a contract with the U.S. National Park Service at Yellowstone National Park to provide the park with the nationa’s first trailer-mounted photovoltaic power solution within the National Park Service. The system is the GS9000 and “will greatly reduce the Yellowstone Ranger Station’s dependence on carbon-based fossil fuel generators typically used to provide power in remote locations within the park.”

The system consists of a 30-foot mobile trailer with five automated solar booms which together produce more than 9,000 watts of electricity. The solar booms automatically track the sun using full azimuth and elevation tracking which greatly enhances the system’s power output. The GS9000 also incorporates more than three days of on-board battery capacity which can deliver power continuously, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, rain or shine.

Nice-looking system.

Off-Grid Electric Vehicle Charging Station for Veteran’s Administration

Another cool project SSI got selected for this year was the Veteran’s Administration’s first off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging station. With electric vehicles on the rise, I think solutions like SSI can offer are going to become more and more necessary and ubiquitous.

The Veteran’s Administration charging station is now in place at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

“This solar EV charging solution allows the VA to charge all of their electric vehicles from a ‘solar only’ solution which will greatly reduce costs and enhance renewable energy at the VA. The SSI solution uses solar power to charge an integrated battery bank which in turn, charges the VA’s many electric vehicles. This solution is significant because it does not connect to the electrical grid thereby using a 100% renewable solar powered energy supply. We hope to replicate this off-grid solar electric vehicle charging solution across the Veteran’s Administration facilities,” Josh Baker, VP of Energy Services at SSI, said back in January.

Great to see companies providing 100% renewable-energy EV charging stations already!

You can learn more about SSI and its latest news on its new website, Facebook page, Tumblr page, or via Twitter.
