How many gallons might be made from non-food sources per year? What percentage of the 400+ million gallons we burn each day in the US?

At what cost per gallon?

All these alternate fuels are fine if someone can make them cheap. But from what little I know, the cost of extracting petroleum is quite low and if significant volume competition appears oil producers could simply drop prices to force them off the market.
