Republican Climate-Blindness Spreading From Senate to Governors Races

For the last 20 years, Republican Senators have been held to single standard of climate denial by the fossil industry which sends them there. But Republican Governors were left alone.

Thus California’s Republican governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been synonymous with active support for clean energy. Likewise, Florida’s Republican Governor Charlie Crist who flouted Republican dogma with innovative clean energy policies, was a true independent – although, now as a Senate candidate, he’s had to run as one, literally.

But in what may be a harbinger of doom for state level climate and clean energy policies, it appears that the stupid has gotten into Republican Gubernatorial candidates now too.

Wonk Room is reporting that all 4 Republican candidates for Governor of New Mexico are in climate denial. They sound just like Republican Senators.

Chip in a few dollars a month to help support independent cleantech coverage that helps to accelerate the cleantech revolution!

“There is disagreement in the science community concerning the causes of global warming.” says Republican Susana Martinez.

“I don’t mean to be flippant about this, but only God knows where our climate is going.” echoes Republican candidate Jon Barela.

“I think we ought to take a look at whatever the group is that measures all this, the IPCC, they don’t even believe the crap.” sneers Republican Steve Pearce.

“The science is not settled regarding climate change, temperature records have been falsified, and the assumptions used in computer models have large degrees of error” opines Beck-educated climate expert Tom Mullins, Republican.

The fossil lobby appears to have realized that now the states are where the fight is. The oil industry never had control over Arnold Schwarzenegger, now termed out, who supported a clean powered California, through climate policy like AB32.

As a result of that oversight, now they are having to spend hundreds of millions of their lobbying funds to try to wrestle California back to the stone age when manly-men made energy by digging in the dirt – just to overturn our clean energy future bill, AB32. Normally they keep this funding for the Senate.

They got their polluter-funded Prop 23 onto the ballot for November. But it is much more trouble after laws get passed, and what if voters are not as stupid as they think, and don’t get fooled?

Much safer and cheaper to buy the candidates first. Even Senator Inhofe is only a million or so.
