Careful here with absolute numbers comparison. EU population is now more than 500 million citizens, US is nowhere close to that.



For statistics and comparisons it makes more sense to look on a per capita figures.



On a per capita basis US is roughly comparable to western Europe (EU15 as it was up to 2004), for things like economy, industry, energy and such matters.]]></description>

The economies, and the populations of the US and the EU are comparable. Germany has a comparable population and economy as Texas or California. Most European countries are more similar in population and size of economy to individual states here, and just as some states do here, some nations there have more progressive energy policy.]]></description>
