@Dave, Yeah, excellent point!

I think for that exact reason, candidate Jerry Brown in California has just pushed for a mandate for the corresponding percent of renewable energy storage that must grow in tandem with the Renewable Energy Standard to solve exactly that issue.

It seems to me that spain did not make a mistake by "lurching into" FITs exactly... I feel their mistake was to not at the same time subsidize energy storage, which is the obvious technological solution to over capacity.

There was no mention of these possible technological solutions to the problem such as increasing battery storage capacity of the system through, for example, witricity-connected electric cars, sending/receiving energy through the road system's wilectric transceivers... or growing battery capacity underneath roads or buildings...or any of the other interesting energy storage or capacitance ideas...

wouldn't it make more sense for spain (and everybody else) to now encourage investment in storage capacity while continuing to support increasing energy capacity so that they can get completely free of fossil fuels?

I would rather see the market move as fast as possible towards the ultimate goal of high efficiency and low cost for pv that we need to make it our sole energy source.

Well you better only say nice things about Italy. When you talk bad about them they try to extradite you to face defamation charges, like those Americans facing 10 years prison time. Atleast they are fascists who like clean energy.
