While it is commendable that India is trying to infuse some fresh breath into green energy and climate change related issues with this initiative, I have doubts whether it is going to bear any fruit at all. There is the extreme administrative inertia of India itself. Add to this that none of her neighbours in the SAARC trust India, mostly because the politics in these countries is in some ways defined by how they are not "Indian" in spite of thousands of years of demonstrable Indian socio-cultural influences. In more senses than one all the non-Indian SAF members are actually closer to India than they realize, but local politics have hijacked developmental issues for the past 60+ years.

Other than Bhutan and Maldives, which are de facto Indian satellite nations each have local problems associated with ethnic and religious strife tangled up with their nationhood. I wonder when some enlightened leadership in these countries will get over with these pettiness to actually do some thing worthwhile for their populaces. For that they will have to get rid of the western interference and really look into what defines these nations in addition to their Indianness.

So let me get this right...

While we in the U.S. bicker over Politics, China makes major headway in Green Technologies yet still states that since the "Western World" industrialized itself on the back of oil, they see no reason not to do the same. Tell me, what would happen if India took the same approach. The combined population of India and China are more than North America, South America, and the E.U. combined. What will happen to gas and electric prices if we in the U.S. do not get off of foreign oil - ASAP?
