I'm betting that 's why laws need to be changed. That sort of thing has to be covered, and the rentee would buy insurance, just as they do now for renting a car. I once got a ticket in a rental car in LA and the LA police had no trouble tracking me down in Berkeley. If the ticket is electronic, where they don't see your drivers license, just like rentals now, the rented car would have computer records that indicates who was responsible for driving it at X time.

Who pays for the insurance deductible or repairs and loss of utility if the rentee damages the car? Who's insurance information/registration etc gets submitted if their is an accident or traffic violation? What will the person renting do when he/she gets a ticket in the mail because the rented ran a red light? Does giving your car over to someone else increase your legal liability?

I have been dreaming of this for YEARS. I rarely use my 4runner and would love to be able to rent it out. So glad they're finally working on legalizing that!
