I think this is great. I love devices like solar powered calculators. They last for decades and they never need batteries. I would like to see a phone like or near to this. It does not need any of these fancy features that modern phones seem to absolutely need for some reason. Only Voice calls, SMS/chat rooms, GPS+maps and the ability to serve as an eReader - These are the features a phone needs. It should be sturdy and easy to repair. It can be big and flat. About the size of a typical wallet is choice I think. The outside should be completely taken up by a solar power plastic such as mentioned in the article and it should fold open like a book. There should be two ultra low power touch black and white displays inside. These can be used to type messages, read ebooks and news and use maps for navigation. That is all I need in a phone and although it likely will still need recharging from time to time I think it will be as eco-friendly as a phone can be right now. I really don't need to play games/listen to music/ view videos/etc/etc/ect ad nauseum ad infinitum on a phone. I just want a device I don't feel bad about in any way and that does the really handy things. If it comes with a handy dandy portable crank-dynamo recharger then I'll probably start crying for joy. If you can play chess/word games/ect and fill in crosswords on it then that's more than enough. Think the type of games you can play on paper. Maybe with a simple sketching utility. More meaningful utility in a phone I cannot seriously imagine. And I think there are millions of people who would agree with me.
