I've been using a pellet stove (insert) for the last 7 years. In the first year my costs for heating went from $1800.00 for heating oil to $450.00 for wood pellets and its gotten better as the cost for pellets has decreased. The stove is incredibly efficient and since the heat source is completely derived from wood waste products - its as earth friendly as it comes.

Pellet furnaces are available. I don't know why local governments are not converting to pellet furnaces and then building the plants to convert all the wood waste they currently dump into landfills into pellets. Governments can amortize these costs over time easily enough and the end result is lower taxes for fuel.

Neat article, Carol. I don't understand how the emissions from the pellets can be so low, but perhaps I just need to go do more research.
