As we gently ease out of the "cheap oil era" we are finding a string of smaller bite-sized and affordable adaptations for our lives to things renewable. Science has not left us entirely to our own means. Here is an example of help on the way! SEE:

Inspired by the photosynthesis performed by plants, Nocera and Matthew Kanan, a postdoctoral fellow in Nocera's lab, have developed an unprecedented process that will allow the sun's energy to be used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gases. Later, the oxygen and hydrogen may be recombined inside a fuel cell, creating carbon-free electricity to power your house or your electric car, day or night.

Imagine a roof-top gadget that can provide power through-out the night!

How about a way to store the day's Solar heat energy for night-time home heating? SEE:

Ground source heat pumps use a buried ground loop which transfers heat from the ground into a building to provide space heating and, in some cases, to pre-heat domestic hot water. As well as ground source heat pumps, air source and water source heat pumps are also available.

We even know how to make gasoline from Solar! SEE:

adding H2 gas from solar power installations to coal by-products makes gasoline and diesel fuel as follows:{The Fischer-Tropsch process is a chemical reaction in which a synthesis gas -- a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen -- is converted into liquid hydrocarbons of various forms. The process produces synthetic petroleum for use as a lubricant or fuel. See: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/01/090131095501.htm

Post great republican depression life will be a meritocracy, deeply committed to sustainability - for Americans, and through the lessons learned here, for the rest of the world. We are entering a "New Age" for humanity, if we just let it happen!
